Repeal the Stimulus Act PDF Print E-mail
"Keep in mind, the first 42 presidents, they amassed $5 trillion worth of debt, the first 42 of them. The first couple of hundred years-plus of American history, we accumulated $5 trillion. Now we're at $9 trillion. That's just bad—that's not being fiscally conservative. And so we're going to have to change our policies. Now, it's going to be—let me say this. It's not going to be completely easy, because we’re in a hole. And the first thing you do when you're in a hole is what?"

AUDIENCE MEMBER: "Stop digging."

— Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), Remarks To Campaign Event, Watertown, SD, 5/16/08

Nancy Pelosi and the liberal leadership in Washington are spending the United States into record breaking debt; the so-called stimulus program has turned into a massive government power grab the likes of which we have not seen since the New Deal.

The President's "stimulus" spending spree, combined with the largest budget in history, will increase the public debt by a massive margin. In January, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office estimated the debt would rise to $9.3 trillion in 2019; THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

In five short months President Obama has put us on a path to increase the public debt by $7 trillion over CBO’s estimate, and borrow as much public debt in ten years as our entire nation borrowed in 233 years.

History clearly shows us that building the economy from the government down will not work - we grew the largest economy in the world from the ground up by offering opportunity in a free market system. The strength of the American economy is its workers and entrepreneurs – and that is where the solution to the current recession will be found – not in more government control.

That is why I am fighting to repeal the stimulus bill and prevent any new government bail outs. We need long lasting solutions that will renew our nation’s infrastructure, reform crippling regulations and place capital in the hands of responsible small business owners. These are the principles that I believe in, and I am asking you to stand with me in my fight.

Join me and we can force Congress to cut up its taxpayer-funded credit card and stop spending our children and grandchildren into irreversible debt.

I cannot do this alone. Your support of my campaign and my fight against wasteful government spending cannot continue without your support. Together, we can bring this nation back to true financial security – security built on responsible government spending and limited government regulation; this is what set our economy apart in the world, and it is what will continue to make us strong.
