Vicki Tiahrt Awarded Prestigious Iron Jawed Angel Award
WASHINGTON- Vicki Tiahrt, wife of Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-Goddard), was honored by the National Coalition of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Excellence in Public Service Series at their 2008 annual meeting in Washington DC on April 21, 2008. Tiahrt, along with five other accomplished female business and community leaders from across the country, was selected to receive the prestigious Iron Jawed Angel award.
Noted as a modern day Iron Jawed Angel, Tiahrt was commended for her dedication to the advancement of women and for her own significant contributions to public service.
“Vicki takes great pride in the contributions of Kansas women, in the continuing significance of civility in politics, and in joining with others who love America and want to make life better in this great country,” said Susan Pompeo, the 2008 Eisenhower Series President.
The Iron Jawed Angel award was founded to honor women who have demonstrated sustained leadership and excellence in public service, thereby, enhancing and promoting the value of female leaders. Iron Jawed Angel is a term coined by a newspaper reporter in reference to the suffragettes who quietly stood vigil in front of the White House for two years until a Constitutional Amendment was passed providing for a woman’s right to vote.
The Dwight D. Eisenhower Excellence in Public Service Series is part of the nationwide Excellence in Public Service Series developed by U.S. Senator Richard G. Lugar of Indiana. Kansas is one of 20 states to establish the series. Each state names their Series in honor of a national Republican leader who hails from the state.
The Iron Jawed Angel awards were presented by National Coalition Chairman Judy Singleton in front of 250 women leaders from across the country.
