 Vicki Holland Tiahrt is the wife of Kansas Fourth Congressional District Congressman Todd Tiahrt. Vicki, a native of Pratt, Kansas, attended Pratt Community College and is a graduate of Evangel University, Springfield, MO. She holds degrees in psychology and speech pathology. Vicki worked as a speech therapist in public schools. She and Todd have been blessed with three children.
Active in many worthy causes, Vicki is a Past President of the Congressional Club in Washington, D.C., the historic bipartisan organization for spouses of Members of the House of Representatives, Senate, Supreme Court, and Administration. As President of the Congressional Club, Vicki had responsibility for over 650 members, a Clubhouse on the National Historic Register, and a rich tradition of public service.
Vicki is a 2008, Iron Jawed Angel Award recipient. The term Iron Jawed Angels was used to describe the tenacious women who fought for the right to vote. Founded by the national coalition of the Excellence in Public Service Series programs, this award honors women who have demonstrated sustained leadership and excellence in public service and, thereby, enhancing and promoting the value of female leaders.
Some of her other involvements are serving on the Kansas boards of the Eisenhower Institute, Rainbows United, and Sarah's Hope. In Washington, D.C., she is renowned as a "foodie" teaming with Todd against other DC couples as a thrice-winning chef in the yearly March of Dimes Gourmet Gala. Vicki has also co-chaired the American Association of People with Disabilities Gala and is a favorite emcee of The International Women's Prayer Breakfast associated with the National Presidential Prayer Breakfast.
Vicki served with Stacy Parkinson as a 2007 co-chair of the Kansas Book Festival Gala and as the 2008 honorary Chair of the Big Read Wichita. She was named in May as the 2009 honorary Chair of the Big Read Wichita. The KS Library Association and the Mountain Plains Library Association noted Vicki's work for literacy by naming her the 2009 Emerging Leader Library Advocate award winner.
In the 2008 Presidential Campaign Vicki was a cofounder of Operation Kitchen Cabinet and the Capitol Wive's Speakers Bureau. She campaigned in KS, SD and IA, CO and VA. One of her favorite memories of campaign '08 is speaking to pro-life activists at the Susan B Anthony Spring Tea in the home of Judge Bork. She is 2009 Honorary Chair of the Great American Forum, focusing on conservative ideas in the public square with minorities, women, youth and young professionals empowered and guiding the conversation. Vicki takes great pride in the contribution of Kansas women, in the continuing significance of civility in politics, and in joining with others who love America and want to make life better in this great country.
